Cooney McDowall Design Studio Limited (cmd studio) was established in 2023 by founding Directors Colin Cooney and Mark McDowall. This Landscape Architecture and Garden Design practice seeks innovative design solutions that encourage people to engage with the outdoors. We welcome the opportunity to explore a sites inherent qualities and reveal it’s unique story.

Mark McDowall

Mark McDowall

BLA, MILI, MGLDA

Managing Partner

Originally from Australia, Mark is a Registered Landscape Architect and Garden Designer who has been designing gardens and landscapes for over 27 years. Starting his career in 1996 he has worked extensively in both urban and rural environments throughout Australia, Ireland and the UK.

Prior to founding cmd studio, Mark honed his skills at several high profile design firms including Taylor Cullity Lethlean, Australia’s most highly awarded Landscape Architectural Design Practice. In addition to residential gardens, Mark’s landscape design portfolio includes botanic gardens, waterfront projects, public parks, educational facilities and urban streetscapes.

Colin Cooney

Colin is a Registered Landscape Architect and Garden Designer who Chartered as an Irish Landscape Institute member in 2006. In the past 20 years he has designed, delivered and Project Managed some of the countries most memorable public parks and private gardens.

Before founding cmd studio, Colin established Colin Cooney Designs; a landscape architecture practice that successfully delivered quality garden design services for 11 years. Colin has also been involved in the design of show gardens in the UK, which have received notable award.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, UCD, Dublin, Ireland.
  • Member of the Irish Landscape Institute (MILI)
  • Completion of the Planting Design Course with – Jimi Blake Planting Design Expert
